A note to visitors

Looking at the statistics for the web site, around 15% of visitors appear to come from outside of the UK. If you are one of these, it would be really nice if you could drop us a note to let us know where you are and perhaps if there is anything we can add to the web site that might interest you.

I have set up a guest book so to sign it, please click here to sign our guestbook.

I am trying out an RSS feed so that you can get news items about the club directly. Click in the icon on the right to add the feed

Child Protection Awareness Course

Message from Peter Huggins:

Dear all,

Please find attached the details of a course that is to be run in Maidstone on the morning of Sunday, 1st June.

If you attended the course on Child Protection Awareness that was run in Kent in July 2005 then you will need to consider attending this course as three years is about to elapse and, if you are a coach, you are obliged to attend such a course every three years in order to maintain your name on the coaching register.

For Epee the somewhat legendary and certainly World Class coach/coach educator Gabor Bognar will be leading the course. Social Membership is Changing

How clubs can apply for low cost social or recreational membership for club members.

Social Membership purpose and eligibility:
This membership category is intended for ‘starter’ groups or fencers who only wish to fence socially within their registered club.
Social Membership has changed. From April 1st 2008 fencers will now be issued with a social membership card and voucher. The voucher is for allowance to fence in one local competition and must be handed over to the competition organiser. All social membership cards/vouchers will be sent to the club secretary. Social membership is only available via Registered Clubs, however, you can also apply for social membership via the online membership facility (your card will be sent to the club secretary of your club).

Please note that for the purposes of social membership, a Club is defined as a group of individuals meeting at one venue only and only covers fencing within that venue. The Club must be an affiliated and paid-up member of the BFA.

The only membership benefit is solely to provide insurance cover for fencing within the nominated registered club and 1 local competition.
Social members have no right to “The Sword”, vote or receive any other benefits of British Fencing.

Application must be made by the Registered Club who should supply HQ with the details on the attached application form. Failure to provide all details will delay processing. Click here for membership form

Clubs will receive members cards/voucher as confirmation of insured fencers included under the policy. Insurance cover will only commence after the names and fees are received at HQ.

Downgrading for members in any other category is not permitted.

Clubmark

You probably all know that we are hoping achieve Clubmark standard this year. This has required a tremendous effort on the part of members of the committee and in particular by Jane. East Midlands region club were the first in England fencing to be awarded Clubmark but we hope to follow soon.

To take some words from the East Midlands Region club website: 'When it comes to important things like bids for grants and funds or mundane things like local authority venue hire, the Clubmark award signals to Local Authorities, leisure and education departments that a sports club is run effectively and efficiently, and meets national standards especially concerning policies and procedures for equality, diversity and child protection and the way all its activities are managed and lead'

Below are a number of documents we have submitted. All of the documents are in the Policy Statements section.

First Notice of the Year!

Welcome to 2008!

We are delighted to welcome Grant Dickenson as our new sabre coach, joining Jane Clayton, our foil coach. Grant coaches at a number of other clubs so we are pleased that he has the time to help us develop in the one area where we, as a club, were weak.

24/12/2007

Mallard v Tenterden

On the last night of fencing, Tenterden juniors came over to Mallard for a foil and sabre match. Unfortunately, Mallard lost by 40-29 but a good night of fencing was has by all.

In the raffle (to which everyone was forced by Richard to buy tickets), we raised £37 for club funds.
