Dear Richard, Wow, it's been a long time since we published. In the last few months I've had quite a few changes on the home front, but now I think that the newsletter will become a bit more regular again. The fencing scene has been stirred up quite a bit as well. US fencers continue to perform well on the international stage as Sada Jacobson continues to dominate the women's sabre circuit and the men's foil fencers are getting top-8 results. The new foil timings are the current focus of fencing controversy. In this edition we highlight more reactions to the "test" of the new foil timings.

| New Foil Timings: The Saga Continues | |  All the talk in foil this year has been about the new debounce and lockout timings enforced by the FIE at the World Cup level. The timings have been met with a great deal of resistance as the French, German, and Italian fencing federations are set squarely against them. This feeling came to a head at the Seoul World Cup when the fencers in the final four staged a protest by slowing the game down to three 1-0 bouts for the semifinals and finals. |
| Jacobson Wins in London | | | Sada Jacobson won her Bronze medal rematch against Romania's Catalina Gheorghitoaia to take the gold medal at the London World Cup. Sada remains in the lead of the World Cup points, ahead of team mate and gold medalist Mariel Zagunis who is currently #2. |
| Shanghai Foil Grand Prix - Great US Result! | | | US Olympian Jon Tiompkin defeated one Italian before being knocked out by his teammate en route to a 3rd place finish at the Shanghai Grand Prix of Men's Foil. As oppossed to the finals in Seoul the week before, these matches were all hard fought and went the full 15 points. In addition, there seems to be some progress coming out on tweaking the debounce timings evidenced by letters sent from both the German and Italian fencing federations to FIE president Rene Roch. The letters work to point out flaws in the timings that are being tested during the Junior and Senior World Cup events this season and to propose some compromise solutions. |
